“WILK”: A Red Tale: The Story of Tuskegee Airmen O. Lawton Wilkerson

Its been a full year since the 2012 action-packed thriller “Red Tails”  (based on the Tuskegee Airmen) hit theaters. Now hear the story from the men themselves that was considered to be “one of the greatest secrets in American history.”   “One bright and guiding light that taught me wrong from right, I found in my mother’s eyes. Those baby tales she told of streets paved with gold, I found, I found, I found in my mother’s eyes.” The lyrics greet you with humility as the song gives a powerful exultation to one character in many of our lives whom we owe everything: our mother. Golden Gabby Douglas

2012 Olympics Golden Gabby Douglas I know many of you have been watching the Summer Olympics in London, England. I know I have, even late into the night as our American Teams compete for Olympic medals.  I usually watch track and field, a little basketball and maybe a little swimming.  But with this Olympics, I found myself drawn into an Olympic competition that I never, ever, watched. Women gymnastics had me counting points, subtracting points and cheering for Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Jordyn Wieber and Aly Raisman the “Fierce Five”.  Really, I was totally into yelling at the judges when Aly Raisman was almost denied her Bronze Medal for her performance on the balance beam. olympics FIRST ANNUAL SUMMER OLYMPICS!

On Thursday, July 12, 2012, the Kid’s Health Club Magazine hosted their first annual summer Olympics field day! Despite the hot weather 260 kids (grades k-8) from the Olympia Fields, Richton Park and Homewood Flossmoor park district were all eager in attendance to participate in the day’s activities: softball throw, paper plate throw, crabwalk, long toss, 60 yard relay and the 20 yard relay. Counselors could be seen directing a few warm-up exercises under the shade and on the field, such as arm and toe stretches with the children to prevent any potential muscle pulls and long bus ride home. The opening ceremony began with greetings and remarks from KHC’s President and Physical Therapist Assistant Vernard Alsberry Jr. moving into a warm welcome from Michael E. Hastings who currently
